UMI is a modern Japanese restaurant located in Historic Ellicott City, with a second location coming soon to Downtown Frederick (April or May 2026!). Since opening on May 5, 2019, we have proudly remained family-owned and operated.​

​

We are dedicated to creating a top-tier dining environment, featuring intimate Japanese cocktail bars, peaceful outdoor seating with waterfront views, and live entertainment that fosters joy and new experiences. The Ellicott City location is immersed in nature and overlooks the Tiber River, while the Frederick location will sit next to the downtown waterfront. We are always adapting to the environment and suggestions (we survived the pandemic after all!). As of now, we plan to create more community-focused events or entertainment for our second and last location in Frederick.

 

We will continuously use high-quality ingredients while keeping our menu accessible and affordable. Many of our ingredients are air-shipped from across the world every other day to ensure freshness, including the Nishiki and Tsukiji markets in Japan. Despite the price increases due to changes in import fees and overall inflation, we still want the greater community to enjoy quality food. When we say everyone, we mean it; everyone deserves a quality and unforgettable experience here, and food is a universal love language.
